WE ARE FUN DETECTORS

When Father and Son duo Andy and Paddy started metal detecting in 2019 they had no idea how it would take over their lives. What started as a hobby introduced to them by Gordon has now become a weekly excursion seeing them detect all over the country, a successful YouTube channel for Paddy and Fun Detectors, introducing others to the joy of metal detecting. Between them they have found six gold coins, something some detectorists search for decades to find. Paddy had his greatest find, a piece of Bronze Age Ribbon gold acquired by the British Museum and appeared on More4’s Great British History Hunters in April 2022 showcasing this piece and discussing his love for the hobby. With his YouTube channel steadily growing Paddy is a font of knowledge and loves sharing his passion.

Join us for one of our Experience Days and you will see Andy and Paddy out in the field. Paddy will talk you through how to use the machines, Andy will help you dig while Mum Carly will be your point of contact during the booking experience, organising your time with us to run like clockwork. A true family business we are here to make your experience as fun as possible. We want everyone to leave knowing the basics of metal detecting having had a great experience with us and maybe even a new found passion for history and digging the ground!

PADDY

I’ve been metal detecting for a few years now and it has changed my life. This hobby has allowed me to meet so many amazing people and share so many brilliant moments with them. Metal detecting is not just about the finds which is what most people would think. It is also about the places you go and the people you meet.

During my three years of metal detecting I have found some great things, from bronze age ribbon gold later acquired by the British museum for it’s historical significance, to early 20th century cap badges fallen from soldiers in WW1. Some of my favorite finds have been at times I didn’t expect anything good. It could be a miserable rainy day, the signals few and far between and then you dig up the best thing you’ve ever found from an unspectacular signal.

This hobby has changed my life and I hope you get to experience it too and have as much fun as I do. It really is amazing to pull something out of the ground that was once treasured by someone and then treasure it yourself like they did possibly hundreds of years ago. It’s exciting to think about how long it has been in the ground for, how long has it been lost and who actually lost it.

My name is Patrick and I’m proud to walk through fields, searching for metal, proud to reveal and save England’s history, proud to be a metal detectorist.
